In search of legal support — Reflections from Refugee and Asylum Seeking Women

Abused No More: The Voices of Refugee and Asylum-seeking Women project!
‘Abused No More’ is a three-year Comic Relief and Matrix Chambers funded project which is a user- led skills development and research programme forming an evidence-based awareness raising training for professionals and service providers focusing on the impact of gender-related violence on refugee and asylum-seeking women (RASW). The project aims to generate institutional change and increased gender sensitivity in the treatment of refugee and asylum-seeking women, both by harnessing existing research and by allowing the women themselves to identify the problems they face through community-led action research. For services to be sensitive to the needs of refugee women who have been victims of gender-related violence, it is vital to consult with the women about their experiences. By examining refugee women’s experiences of service provision from their own perspective, it is possible to identify aspects of service delivery that could be altered or improved to ensure adequate support, and to identify what a ‘gender-sensitive approach’ to working with this vulnerable group might look like. Furthermore, we also carried out a consultation exercise with professionals from the refugee sector about the need for a training programme of this nature. In light of our research findings and consultations with RASW, our training for professionals who work with refugee and asylum-seeking women falls within the category of professional ethics, client care and cultural awareness.

Thailand’s ‘Third Sex’ Wants Acceptance, Legal Support

In Thailand, transgender males, also called lady-boys, are a common sight in cities and tourist areas. While many transgenders work in traditionally female professions such as in cabaret shows or in Thailand’s notorious sex industry, most are looking for better integration in Thai society. But, as VOA’s Daniel Schearf reports from the resort city of Pattaya, despite their high visibility, transgenders still face challenges in seeking acceptance.

California is a “No Fault” state when it comes to divorce, however, costly legal issues still arise that can impact you the rest of your life.

Prevailing in a divorce or child custody case is largely about discovering and obtaining relevant facts in a form that is compelling to the court and ADMISSIBLE in court. It is not enough to state innuendo, or “everyone knows this” or otherwise use conjecture to establish a fact. Facts are established by witnesses, documents and various forms of evidence.

First you need to retain a very good, specialized licensed investigator. When making this choice, take into consideration California does not have pre-license educational requirements for private investigator applicants, nor does the state require continuing education once licensed. A very small fraction of the state licensed P.I.s have formal education in litigation, leaving the majority of P.I.s clueless when it comes to knowledge of the elements of a legal issue.

What does this mean to you? At the very least, possibly wasted time and money on a worthless, aimless investigation. On the other hand, it could mean an adverse legal decision that could impact you the rest of your life and worse, the possibility of exposure to civil liability for the tortious acts of an untrained investigator.

Any private investigator can be used to determine if adultery exists … that’s a no brainer. However, in litigation, you need a trained licensed investigator specializing in Family Law matters. A specialized Family Law investigator can be invaluable in complex matters such as child custody and visitation cases, contempt cases, on the issue of finding hidden property, and in support cases when it becomes necessary to track someone who is lying about their employment and income.

The LEGAL SUPPORT INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE utilizes decades of investigative experience and trained Paralegal expertise to provide you with a focused and cost effective investigation with reduced liability.

The trained licensed investigators at LSIS understand the legal issues and their elements, the rules of evidence and how to present this evidence in the form of credible reports supported by evidence and courtroom testimony. They also know the codified laws and case laws that govern our actions, with a firm understanding of liability, protecting our client’s from exposure to liability.

LSIS has been successfully employed as part of a legal strategy to win innumerable cases that otherwise may have been up in the air as to their results or would have been extremely challenging to prove.

We rely on specialized Paralegal and Investigative training in:

California Family Law
Civil Procedures
Legal Research
Legal Writing
Domestic Violence
Child Abuse & Neglect
Privacy Laws

Additionally, we receive legal updates and ongoing continuing education through membership with paralegal and investigative associations.

Law firms repeatedly use LSIS based on trust. A trust derived from results, investigative & legal knowledge, professionalism, reliability and integrity.

SEIA Announces Support for Florida Solar Ballot Initiative

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) March 24, 2015

Calling it vitally important to the development of clean energy resources in Florida, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has announced its “strong support” in endorsing the Floridians for Solar Choice 2016 ballot initiative. This is a grassroots citizens’ effort to allow more homes and businesses to generate electricity by harnessing the power of the sun. Currently, Florida is one of only five states in the nation that prohibits its citizens from buying electricity from companies that install solar panels on homes and businesses.

“This fight is about consumer choice and private property rights – cherished, long-standing American principals that we strongly support as an organization and an industry,” said Rhone Resch, SEIA president and CEO. “Despite its sun-rich resources, Florida ranked only 20th in the nation last year in new installed solar capacity. For a state that touts itself as the ‘sunshine state,’ that’s a huge disappointment. Clearly, the legal prohibition against certain solar installations represents a serious roadblock to the development of clean, reliable solar energy statewide. We urge Floridians to sign this critically important, freedom-of-choice petition, allowing it to be placed on next year’s ballot.”

According to Florida law, 683,149 signatures are needed by February 1, 2016 to be included on the ballot. If ultimately successful, Resch said the ballot initiative could dramatically spur new solar development in Florida, providing the state with a big economic boost.

“Today, the U.S. solar industry employs 174,000 Americans nationwide – more than tech giants Apple, Google, Facebook and Twitter combined – and pumps nearly $ 18 billion a year into our economy,” Resch added. “This remarkable growth is due, in large part, to smart and effective public policies, such as the solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS). By any measurement, these policies are paying huge dividends for both the U.S. economy and our environment. It’s time for Florida to share in this growth, too.”
